The Energy Laboratory of the Research Group on Chemistry Applied to Technology (GP-QAT) at the University of the State of Amazonas (UEA) is dedicated to research on the valorization of agro-industrial waste and the production of sustainable biofuels, contributing to the energy transition and the development of the Amazonian bioeconomy. Its infrastructure is part of the laboratory network of the Amazonas Chemical Analysis Center (CAQQAT/UEA), with a focus on chemical and physicochemical processes for converting biomass into green fuels and high-value-added products.

The laboratory is equipped with bench-scale and pilot-scale reactors, muffle furnaces, distillation systems, and temperature and pressure control systems for pyrolysis, transesterification, hydrolysis, and fermentation processes. This infrastructure enables comprehensive studies on the conversion of regional agro-industrial residues—including fruit peels, waste vegetable oils, sawdust, sugarcane bagasse, açaí seeds, and Amazonian seeds—into biofuels such as biodiesel, bio-oil, ethanol, and synthesis gas (syngas).

The laboratory’s activities encompass all stages of the technological process, including the physicochemical characterization of biomass, pretreatment, thermochemical or biochemical conversion, purification and analysis of the resulting products, as well as energy and environmental assessments. Tests are conducted in accordance with ASTM, ABNT, EPA, and ANP standards, ensuring the reliability of the results and their applicability in industrial contexts.

In addition to applied research, the Energy Laboratory contributes to the training of students and researchers in clean technologies and the circular economy, fostering innovation in regional energy systems and the development of sustainable solutions for the utilization of residues generated by Amazonian agro-industrial and fisheries activities.

In this context, the GP-QAT/UEA Energy Laboratory has established itself as a center of scientific and technological excellence in green fuels and sustainable chemistry, contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions, the generation of added value from local waste streams, and the strengthening of the bioeconomy of the State of Amazonas.
